A UK gallon is not the same thing as a US gallon. Plus most demijohns are 1gallon, not 5L - there's a ~10% difference between the two.

As it's a British site, with strong leaning towards Indian Pale Ale production it is only right and proper that we use Imperial measurements, not some soul less euro (French derived, pah) unit of measurement

You try calibrating a few.

To the base of the neck my “gallon” DJs range from 4.6 to 4.9 litres. I have marked them with little stickers because on a final racking it's useful to be able to select a slightly smaller jar to reduce top-ups.


So far this year (wine) 5 x 15 litre + 2 x 19 litre + 1 x 22 litre + 3 x 1 ‘gallon’ = 147.5 litres, 32.5 gallons.

I have already declared 11 gallons, so that's another 21.5 to add.
