Recon this has an infection, did a stout that went wrong from start to finish. Added some Polyclar 730 and now i have this sitting on top of my beer in the secondary.

:( Beer tastes fine though and no funny smells, the white film on top has no taste either

Acetobacter. It may taste ok but trust me it won't in a week or so.

Leave it in an open container with a tea towel over it and by spring you will have the best malt vinegar you have ever tasted. I had 10 gallons of bitter go last year kept 2 to make vinegar which me and a mate have used for pickled onions.

Same thing happened again last week to a stout so I am now keeping all of it for vinegar.

Got round to trying this, tastes ok, tastes a bit of chocolate in it too. Actually i like it a lot, not a hint of vinegar. :)
