Just about to start all grain brewing and have purchased a Coleman coolbox to use as a mash tun. does anyone have any good instructions on how to install a tap fitting into the ice drain hole?

Cheers

Hi

I take its one of the larger Xtreame jobs? lets get the conversation going as after 5 posts u will be able to post a few pics..

what size hole is it? and what are you planning for filtering the mash, A fb, or a manifold or mesh attachment inside?

if your looking at a manifold or mesh which needs a connection on the inside too then its a case of fitting something thru the hole to provide both side connections.

the popular choice is a drilled or filled through 15mm compression tank connector, but as u already have a drain hole that may not be best.

is the hole you have threaded?

If it's one of the Coleman Xtreme one's it's easy. Here's how I did mine

The Ice plug just unscrews

I went to my local plumbcenter and got a long tank connector as a standard one is just to short

Before fitting it to the coolbox I drilled it out with a 15mm drill

A ball tap fits quite nicely

Some of Vossy's Silicon tube fits on the inside

And connect to the copper manifold which is made of 22mm copper

This just pushfits together for easy cleaning

Thanks for all the replies!

It is a Coleman Extreame I'm going for a 'water butt' style tap and seen lots of info about using flexible metal pipe for the filter which will just screw into the back of the tap.

Any thoughts?

Ended up building my filter from a flexible tap connector. Pictures to follow.
