Music Generator Software for kids

Hi

Does anyone know about music generator software. My 9 year old is getting into music, he learning to play the flute and clarimet but has asked for two things for his birthday.
C
1) music generating software. something that he can make his own tunes. I have heard of propellerhead cubas and the like but obviously want something for his age and don't know where to start not being musical.
2) He also wants some usb mixing decks so that he can mix music. Again I haven't got a clue.

Any suggestions?

You can just Google Fruity Loops first and have a read up on it

Dance ejay is used by some primary schools, albeit the primary version of it. But shouldn't be too much of a difference... Should be fairly cheap too
