Talking of Roger Moore...chap works with me cousin was/is the estate manager for Roger Moore...he met him quite a few times and was left his cigar case with cigars.
At his memorial service at Pinewood Studios he was largely ignored until the likes of the Broccolis and Joan Collins acknowledged him as they'd met him previously...

Dame Kelly Holmes was a guest at our local Parkrun. She finished well before me and then ran back to encourage us stragglers, I got a high five from her.

On another occasion Bethan Davies, bronze medallist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games for speed walking was taking part. She finished before me and she was walking!

I was running the day that Charlotte Arter, British 10,000m champion and Welsh half marathon record holder, set a new women's Parkrun record. She finished in 15 minutes and 49 seconds. It takes me twice that.

Welsh readers will know who Derek the Weatherman is, he quite often runs our local Parkrun, I always beat him.

I met Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen in Clintons Cards in the Trafford Centre. My wife was a big fan of Changing Rooms at the time and as luck would have it, it was her birthday the next day, so I bought a birthday card and asked him to sign it to my wife. Nice chap! Anyway for a laugh I told her that people on the telly are much smaller when you meet them in real life. To this day she thinks he is 5'2".

Not many will remember Olly Flynn but he won an Olympic gold for GB in the walking event in the 1970s. Quite often he would get off at Tower hill underground station at the same time as me. Little did he know it but I beat him several times in the few hundred metre walk to Fenchurch street overground station.

(I'm feeling old with this....)

My wife & I married at her home church (St Thomas in Brentwood, Essex) in 1983. We had to go to the US embassy in London afterward and we had lunch sitting outside on Piccadilly Circus. This Native American (Creek Nation) walked up and stood, by our table, looking away from us. It was Will Simpson ("Chief" in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest). We asked what brought him to Piccadilly & he said it was his favorite place to study all the different kinds of people. At 6 foot 7, he was hard to miss. Soft spoken, nice guy.

(He passed in 1987.)

Hmmmm. As far as athletes...
I went to public school with Mickey Marvin who played Offensive Guard for the NFL Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders 1977-1988. He never stopped being the country-kid I went to classes with.

Over 35 years ago I was skiing in Bulgaria, at that time it was a hard-line communist country.
Me and wifey bought some new skis from the Atomic factory at a fraction of the cost they would have been at home.
We also bought some Saloman bindings from the duty free coricom shop that you could only buy stuff with a hard currency, pounds, dollars, marks etc, (Johnny Walker black label was £2 a litre).
We were in the ski workshop getting the new skis prepped and fitted when we were approached by a shady looking character who said he was there to make an advert for Saloman bindings and would we like to be in it.
We spent half a day filming with a very long break for beer.
On the way down the mountain in the gondola, he said he was going to use my boots clipping in to the bindings, but my wife setting off skiing, but it will look like the same person.
I asked why he chose to do it like that , he said, "because she's got a better ar*se than you"
He also informed me that commercials were a side line for him, he normally makes porn films!
Anyway 4 years later, back in Bulgaria, they were still running the advert, my feet, her ar*se. I still wonder if anyone noticed I was wearing black boots, hers were pink.

Once told Barry McGuigan (sp?) to sod off.
I was marshalling a rally-cross event at Lydden Circuit in Kent, when up he rolls, with his Metro 6R4, expecting to be allowed to just get on the track and race without going through scrutineering....

...Oi Barry, NO!

I was at Lydd kart race track early one freezing February morning 2000ish (my son's the driver, I'm the oily rag), and crossed paths with an older small guy wearing a big sheepskin coat, also carrying a warm drink.
We exchanged 'a little bit cold this morning, isn't it?' pleasantries.
On arrival at our set-up, our karting neighbours said, "bet you didn't get much change out of him".
I said he was perfectly civil, to be informed that he was double World Champion John Surtees, there with his young son Henry. But that's another sad story.
Being 'on the circuit' we came across each other from time to time, never had anything but pleasant interactions.
I suppose he must have become jaded with too many time wasting sucker-uppers over the years.
Shows that if you're not pushy, you don't get brushed off.

Whilst I'm on the motorsports character theme, I also crossed the path of Stirling Moss in my place of work. Now he was aloof, but it may just have been due to the time and place. I did work in healthcare in the Harley Street district at the time.
Had the blood of the Duke of Westminster in my hands in the same place.
Oh, and Michael Jackson - that was well loaded, man.
(I can say that publicly now he's dead).

Used to go clubbing all over the North West / Midlands during the 90s 🤓
At one stage we often frequented the Moat House Hotel near to Manchester Airport. We used to go for the music but there were ladies far beyond our class looking for a catch. The Utd lads showed every week and it was this week in question when a young Beckham had just lobbed the keeper from the halfway line and low and behold I met him in the lavatoir. On leaving I held the bog door open as we exited he, in his squeeky style said "cheers mate"!
Possibly the most recognised sportsman on the planet 🤔 humble all the same.
A few weeks later I was in the same club with my best mate's girlfriend, tall, leggy, blond, staunch Liverpool fan. A certain Ryan Giggs walked up to her and said "do you know who I am" with an air of an arsehole waiting for a favourable breeze. She replied "yes and f**k off"!
