Well it finally happened, I drain poured about 15lt of a hazy pale ale I brewed. Thing is.... I'm not unhappy about it!
I brewed a hazy Pale ale, with Hornindal Kveik yeast, and plenty of juicy hops. All came together quite well, but when tasting I noted a particular background taste of Marzipan. Otherwise the beer was okay, even quite nice, but the marzipan taste was ever present.
Looking it up, it's Benzoaldehyde, which is often the product of oxidisation, and sometimes the product of bacteria. So...... after thinking about it for a while, I just took the plunge and drain poured..........
Strangely I feel quite good about it. Something to do with appreciating that something isn't right, and not a great loss to lose.
I've brewed a lot of fairly hefty high flavour, more alcoholic beers in the past 6 months, and I feel like a change. I've come to appreciate good session beers more recently, and would like to have a go at that side of things.
So my take on this is.... if you don't like it 100% then don't drink it. Just because you brewed it doesn't mean you *have* to drink it.
Cheers.
