Very good Tazuk, impressive job!
Be prepared, especially when heating up your HLT, for the metal plate you have mounted the SSRs on to get quite warm.

Looks good to me, nice work, the forum has been short of brew porn for a while now. Not quite mastered PID set up myself but getting into it. :? ;)

Could yoy rephrase that?

Idiot question.. what is PID?

does this type of controller allow you to set a temperature and then your boiler/HLT will heat upto that temp? ie mash strike temp

also would this sort of controller help me out with my way too rapid a boil issue with my 2 element mango barrel boiler?
even when boiling on one element i have boiled of way more than expected on 60 min boils.. 1.5-2 gallons boil off per hour easy... i had to top my post boil wort up with 4 ltrs of water last brew?? currently i switch on one or both elements generally both to hit a boil quick and then just one to keep it boiling..

If its a connect terminal a to terminal b build worth looking into perhaps..

tia

as far as i know a pid unit its better to use one element per pid from wot i been told but may be wrong :wha: i not a expert in that field :thumb: :wha: better of asking some other guys of here me thinks :thumb:

cheers tazuk.. PID?? should have used google.. have done so now and get it .. well i get a bit more than i did yesterday..

PID = Proportional, Integral, Derivative. !!Of course it all makes sense now ....

Yep.

It sounds like you have too much heating power for your boil size tbh, which has other issues for the beer your making ie, caramelization of the wort due to too much thermal load. You could restrict one of the elements then it would only pulse on and off to prevent the boil temp from getting too low. Another option (one I know of but haven't used, and seems hard to get hold of) is a voltage controller, someone else might be able to shed more light on that one for you.
Alternatively you could get some lower rated elements, if applicable.

Cheers Vossey1, i should have done a lil google b4 i posted.. got it now.. and think i will hold off for now on modding my basic boiler, as the way things are looking i may end up rebuilding it from scratch, perhaps something shiney n metal hehe And then it will be time to pull the basic electronics text from the shelf n dust off my underused soldering iron...

anyway being a fair weather patio brewer I think it will be stove top brews n kits till next spring now :(
