Hi

I have just bought a plate heat exchanger to cool the wort before fermentation and I am trying to work out what is the best steriliser for it. I know you cannot use chlorine based sterilisers but is it OK to use acid sterilisers like Star San? If not then what do people suggest I use.

Many thanks.

Boiling water. The heat will not just sanitise, but sterilise. You can just rinse it through with warm water after each use, then use the boiling wort to sanitise by running it through for a minute before turning on the cooling stream.
