Strawberry or Blackcurrant flavours

Hi, I have made some very good cider this past few months, more by luck!! these were my first attempts, so I now want to try flavouring with strawberry or blackcurrant, now here is the question, do I use an essence, if so does anyone know where I should look to buy them, will the essence used in cakes work? or, is it too tricky to use fresh strawberries or blackcurrants. Looking forward to hearing from anyone who has any ideas or who has had success in making fruit flavoured cider.
