I have been re listening to the mighty back catalogue belonging to King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard.
The band was mentioned earlier in the thread and it reminded me of there existence.
An absolutely fantastic group.
A Rock, Psychedelic, Prog Rock mash up of the finest quality musicianship.
If you want to give them a listen to. I would personally start with the album, ‘Polygondwanaland’. The first track from the album, ‘crumbling castle’ is a real stand out.

That was me - they are my favourite band on the planet right now. Every record is so different to the last as well they’ve done everything.

That’s right it was. 👍👍
Thanks for the reminder...
I had noticed that they had recently released a new album, but I didn’t get around to actually listening to it.
It’s fantastic. Despite the curious discord of some of the instruments, it’s mesmerising to listen to. 🍻

They always have a new album out - I think they are on 17 studio albums, 3 live albums and a rarities compilation and they only formed in 2010.

If you like Gizzard you should check out the Psychadelic Porn Crumpets. They are another Australian psych-rock band, and are a lot like a gizzard in lances, but have less of the prog/World influences and also give off Jane’s Addiction and The Beatles vibes. Their new album “SHYGA!” is excellent.

I’ve also just run my Apple Replay analytics for the year so far. A couple of surprises in there, my top 10 most listened to albums of 2021 are as follows. The ones that didn’t appear in my original list have a little description next to them:
1. Jeremy Pinnel - Ties of Blood and Affection

2. Frank Turner - Sleep is for the Week

3. Hirie- Dreamer. I’m surprised this is at number 3. They are a pop-reggae band fronted by the very beautiful Trish who I discovered through a recent Sublime tribute album. Poppier than I would usually go for but very chilled and cool(perfect for working from home which is probably how it’s so high on my list). There’s an appearance from Jurassic 5’s Chali 2Na on this record too for added cool points.

4. Weezer - OK Human. I think this is Weezer’s best album in 15 years+. A bit of a departure from anything they’ve done before, it uses only chamber/orchestra instruments - no guitars.

5. Steve Earle & The Dukes - JT. Steve Earle’s tribute to his son (songwriter Justin Townes Earle) who died last year, who was one of my favourite songwriters. It’s very good - he puts his own spin on the tracks.

6. Austin Lucas - Alive in the Hot Zone

7. Van Darien - Levee. Alt-country/country-rock type stuff with a bit of an indie-pop twist

8. Psychadelic Porn Crumpets - SHYGA

9. Aubrie Sellars - New City Blues. Alt-country with blues, garage rock and early 00s indie-rock influences.

10. Justin Townes Earle - Harlem River Blues. JTE is one of my favourite songwriters, he manages to make music that simultaneously sounds old fashioned and super fresh. If KG’s Nonagon Infinity is my favourite album of the 2010s, this one is probably 2nd.

Morning all,
It’s been a busy week. Back to work for me. I have still managed to find a bit of down time to brew a Summer Lightning clone and listen to some good music.
Thank you all for your great recommendations through the last week. That has certainly led to some interesting discovery’s.
Here is my selection for you, for this Sunday morning.

Classical:
If you don’t own a PlayStation or Xbox, or gaming is not your thing. You might not be aware of some of the incredible Soundtracks associated with games these days.
So my first recommendation is this soundtrack, to the game, ‘The Last Of Us Part 2’ The soundtrack is by Gustavo Santaolalla. A mix of moody guitar and imposing electronic and Orchestrated themes.

Rock/Metal:
Insomnium. ‘Shadows of the dying sun’ Finish melodic death metal. This album is certainly worth a listen too if Metal is your thing. I love this album. The guitar work is fantastic. I am certainly looking forward to there new album release.

Jazz:
Melody Gardot ‘currency of man (the artist’s cut)’ Melody is an incredible musician and songwriter. I have seen her live a few times and she and her band are incredible. If you listen to one thing new this week, this album has to be it.

Well, that’s it from me for for this Sunday morning.
I hope you have a good week.
🍻

I got tickets yesterday for the All Points East Festival in London this August solely to see The National and Fleet Foxes - two of my favourite bands in one hit! It wasn’t until later that I realised King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are also on the bill - a name I’d remembered from this thread on here. I’ll have to listen to them over the next few months and will let you know what they’re like live.

They were my last pre-COVID gig (although I have been to one post-COVID now). They are superb live, and actually change their set list every night - I was lucky when I saw them because they played a lot from Nonagon Infinity and Microtonal Banana that night which are my 2 favourite albums by them.

As I like a bit of Ska I'd probably go for a fairly new band 'Death of guitar pop' or a radio station named bootboyradio.net.
And if you like radio have a look at the website 'Radio Garden'. Thousands of radio stations around the globe, just click on the map.

Radio garden is amazing, really interesting to listen in on the world.

That's great! It does say its an insecure site though on my phone without installing the app.

Yeah I was recommended them a few months back. Wasn’t their album close to breaking into the top 10 in the charts despite being completely self financed and self released?

I’m more into 3rd wave ska (ska-punk/ska-core era) than the trad or 2Tone stuff but enjoyed it quite a lot.

Re: DOGP, yes, sort of, you pre-paid for the album then months later when they had enough sales to be way up the charts they released the album.
All the advanced sales counted as having been sold that week. All of the albums were signed and they sent you a signed Christmas card too.

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard appear to have completely disappeared from the All Points East bill with no explanation. Shame, I was looking forward to seeing them following the recommendations on here.
