I find the red grape and pomegranate to be closest to a red though it still is more like a rose.

I agree Chewie, pomegranate does make quite a dark wine as does blueberry but the RGJ can make a difference to the colour as well. I've found that Sainsbury's seems to make a good dark one, the last time I used Asda's it wasn't quite so dark. Chippy mentioned in a similar discussion a while back that although the colour might be right it's never quite the same as a red.

Hers is a recipe for Richard's Red from another forum, it allegedly comes out like a good red table wine, it uses 1 x 245g can of Young's wine enricher, I've not tried it myself but have a read and see what ya's think.

3 litres pure pressed red grape juice (3 for £2 Tescos or Sainsburys 100% pressed red grape or you can use the Italian grape juice from Sainsbods in place of one of the pressed.)

I can (245 gram) Youngs wine enricher (* I get mine from Wilko's) this is a must as it gives some body to the wine.

1tsp nutrient, 1tsp citric acid, 1tsp pectolase ½tsp tannin and I always use a Vit B1 tab but it is not essential.

450 grams sugar dissolved in hot water to make 1 litre liquid.

Make up to the 1 gall mark with water if needed and check OG should be around 1090-5.

I always use 500 grams sugar this gives an OG of 1.100 at the 1 gall mark I then fill almost to the top this, I find, then brings it down to 1.090 and I then draw off about ¾ litre and ferment this in a pet this way I get a full DJ when the fermentation dies down and no frothing over.

Use a starter yeast ( I use Harris's super yeast but a Burgandy gives better results) and ferment to required dryness mine is about 0.998

Then the usual de-gas stabilise fine filter etc.

I usually get 6+ bottles using my method but it does cost about £5 for the 6 but IMHO you do get a decent red table wine.

Regards and enjoy Richard G

Just tried my wow, Apple grape
It's down to 1000 now, sweet but sharp
Is sharp a sine I need to add acid
I started this brew on the 18-11-15 sg 1100

I've had a third and forth tast now
It tastes sharp on the sides off my tung if that makes any sense

Just added 2 wow's to the fermenting fridge.

Red Grape/Apple
1l Red Grape (Lidl)
2l Cloudy Apple (Lidl) they were out of clear and this one is my fav anyway.
800g Caster Sugar
1 cup strong tea
1 tsp Pectalose
1 tsp Glycerine
1 tsp yeast nutrient
1 tsp Yeast (girvan GV5)

Apple Wine
3l Cloudy Apple (Lidl)
1Kg Caster Sugar
1 cup strong tea
1 tsp Pectalose
1 tsp Glycerine
1 tsp yeast nutrient
1 tsp Yeast (girvan GV5)

Going to be away next week so It'll be left in peace until I get back about 10days time. Hopefully it'll be ready to rack by then.
Quick question. When I rack do I top up with water or would clear apple juice or grape juice be better?

Racked these today as I got the hold of a few demi's and chalk pens (they are fantastic, big wean with new toy )
The RG/Apple has gone to 0.995 and tasted a little dry but ok. The Apple had only gone to 1.010 but wasn't over sweet so I think it'll be ok. I may use it as a base for an asti style sweet fizzy with champagne yeast but haven't decided yet.

Split each into two demis or experimentation. Added a camden tab t each and degassed with the drill.
Topped up one apple with Apple Juice and the other Apple with 50/50 Apple/Water.
The Grape and Apple I topped one with Red Grape/Apple about 60/40 and the other I topped with the RG60-Apple40 / Water 50/50.
Tomorrow i'll add some Potassium Sorbate then leave it a few days or a week and hit it with kwik clear finings.

I tend to add tablets/sorbate then degas to make sure there well mixed then leave it till the gas head has settled out (about 30 mins) then add the first of the finings.

I see in sainsburys beetroot juice 1L
Anyone tried a beetroot wow or just beetroot wine

I'm too new tbh my first wows aren't ready. But I would say try it. That's the beauty 6 bottles of wine for about £2.00

I doubt it will have any sugar in but check, who knows these days,

never made beetroot wine myself, a mate once turned up with some his brother had made and all I remember is we banged on about what a feckin lovely colour it was every time we poured a glass.

Beetroot juice 90% 10% Apple £2,70 a litre
The xpence man I can't though that kind off gold about :rofl::rofl:

The problem with that juice is its are mostly water -

Water , Sugar , Cranberry Juice from Concentrate (12%) , Ascorbic Acid , Flavouring , Acidity Regulator (Citric Acid) , Colour (Carotenes) .

They taste strong but lose taste as they ferment, i am sure the stuff we used to use was nearer 50% juice so we doubled up, see if you can find any that are more juice.

Think I may try 1 litre off beetroot and 1 litre off white grape
But here's the question what type off acid if any + any thing I should add, I'am a novice still
