Which type of chocolate malt ?

I've been browsing several recipes for a northern brown ale and they all list chocolate malt as an ingredient. If no type is mentioned do I assume they mean light chocolate rather than the dark variety ?

I would think they mean standard chocolate malt not light, usually some where around 900 ebc or slightly higher
