I've done 4 all grain brews now, one of which is still in secondary.

I've decided that I really need to quit.

Otherwise, I'll become a fat alcoholic.

There's always the thing where when you made it yourself, it tastes better, Bread is a good example.
Well AG is like bread, if you are a kit brewer and know how good home made bread tastes, then throw away the sliced white, and start baking All Grain style.

I would love to but a sliced White's all ive got time for im afraid (if you add some spraymalt or steeped grains does that make it wholemeal ;) )
Im just jealous, and halfway to being a fat,kit brewing alkie
Wheres my mountain bike

Possible to make very acceptable beer using modern kits and steeping grains like Crystal & hop additions are a big plus. In your situation, spending 5 hours on the weekend messing with AG is not a good move. Look forward to it, like many look forward to retirement. :thumb:

My ten litre AGs take 2.5 hours. Within reach of a lot more people than a 5 gallon AG.

My 5lt AG brews à la Clibit's simple AG method with added mini Mashtun! Take around 3hrs... Ish with cleaning I often do them after work on an evening when the Mrs is on late. I find less is more less to bottle and less beer to have around plus I ONLY drink on a weekend so it's more self control!

I find Thai Boxing three times a week helps aswell.

I fit the Thai boxing in during the mash. :thumb:

You can count it as your 5 a day. Grain, malt, fruit for wine, hops, and if you use jam in wine that contains fruit too. So home brew is the way forward in all ways.

I'd really love to know your schedule for doing AGs in that short a time. I do 10L AGs and can't seem to get the time down below 5hrs.

I think clibit's schedule is:

1. Aquire grains.
2. use the dark side of the force on them.
3. destroy the odd planet or two.
4. use force to move grains into the fv
5. wipe out rebel forces
6. ferment using the force instead of yeast.

I run round like the proverbial fly all day, missus had a step o meter WiFi matic I just count mine as a lot.

Often cycle so that's how I burn most of it, oh and walking miles with the dog searching for fruits for wine.

Brewing is the time, myself, friends and SWMBO can gather together and have a laugh.

Most my AG days there are 4 people around, one guy just wants the grain for his chickens :-) but he works the outside tap for the wort chiller.

Just make stuff that needs age ;-)

15 mins heating mash water while I mill grains (I use hot water from combi boiler)
5 mins mashing in
30-40 mins mash (no loss in efficiency I've found)
10 min sparge, or mash out if I do full volume mash
15-20 mins to reach boil
60 min boil while I clean up and sterilize fv Etc
Switch off and plonk pot in sink of cold water.

I then consider the job done. Though I usually change the water, and transfer the beer to the FV after about an hour, but that's just a quick pour. When the temp drops to pitching temp I add the yeast.
