Did the belgium quad recipe featured on page 1 here - https://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/threads/strange-steves-homebrew-reviews.67725/#post-640517
Scaled up the recipe slightly and chuffed to get the SG spot on. I fear it may be a beast, last time I made something this strong it made a good attempt at colonising the house.
This was chucked into a keg today to finish off and be forgotten about for a while but it tastes and smells damn good at the moment. Very warming and the star anise is subtle but there.
Cant wait for next winter now!

Today I have mostly been brewing a Coopers Hefe Weizen. It was a couple of weeks out of date so I got it for £8. I also managed to get 1.5kg wheat malt for £4.50. It's gone in the fermenter today, so we'll see how it goes. Got some Wilko yeast on hand just in case.

Aipa mentioned elsewhere. ..I've used Columbus, centennial and cascade. Recipe has 200g of oats, something new to me so see what happens!
Water coming up to temp...
All done. Calculator said og 1051 for my grain bill I got 1049 ish. ..just under 72% bhe ...I think the next move on this is try a continual sparge. ..maybe! Wort very clear but lots of break material.

Currently just brought to boil - 1864 Lovibond XB pale ale. One of Ron Pattinsons historic beer recipes.
I guess you hipster brewers would call it a Smash these days as it's just pale malt plus 3 doses of goldings hops. Nice to be up to date with my brewing.

Good stuff - hope you are doing well after Black IPA-gate....

Son didn't go to school today so I got him brewing his first beer instead, for his 20th birthday a wheat beer with basil and lemon juice, anybody used herbs in beer before?

Chesters dark mild. Low abv, quaffing beer and the first beer I ever drank when I was a young whipper snapper.

Started my first AG brew last night, based on the "Have a go at simple AG" thread with some tweaks courtesy of the Brulosophy guys.
My father in law bought me 3 x 1kg bags of Golden Promise malt, thinking it was DME, so I decided to have a go at a simple 10L AG bitter.
This brew was all about simplicity, so I chose the BIAB method (I already have all the kit from doing extract brews).
I mashed overnight and got up early this morning before the hordes descended on the kitchen. After a cold dunk sparge the 30 minute boil/hop additions went as planned.
Spot on with the OG, added Crossmyloof Real Ale yeast, then in to the brew fridge at 21C.
It all went surprisingly easy, with no cock-ups, however the proof of the brew is in the drinking.....so we'll see in a couple of weeks.
I may post photos and recipe if anyone's interested :laugh8:
Tested the gravity after 7 days and according to the Brewers Friend brix converter it's already at 5.5%:?:
I used Brewgr for my recipe and I was expecting about 4% so it came as a bit of a shock!
I did mill the already crushed grain to improve efficiency as it's a BIAB. Maybe that's the reason?

standard wheat beer, no hops yet. i'll probably use the bittering extract and may try the other extracts, the ones I used for my triple were a bit dissapointing. triple turned out ok but it took a while to get the extract to 'calm down'

thx my ol m8.
hows thing ova at yours?

Hi all's as well as can be on this end.Be doing a bit of delving into water treatment with the help of @strange-steve as I've known there's been a few issues with a few of my beers. When I fully get to grasp it I'm going to give the Shipyard Rye V2 a brew as I wasn't going to waste another brewday and loads of good hops for something to turn out mediocre.
Hope all's well your end as I see you're looking after MJ's overpriced fridge's......:smile6:

Well good to see you back on the forum and getting back to brewing.....Cheers.

A pale ale for hot summer days. Got 91% extract efficiency without any special processes! Boil with Challenger (FWH), Fuggles (20 min) and EKG leaves (10 min). Now waiting on whirlpool, rack into carboy and then add starter.
