Hi guys and gals, just thought I'd share a stainless steel fv that I came across recently. I thought the price was decent and ordered one, although I've not used it yet the quality seems great. The only down side is that it's not conical, but I got it as I wanted an affordable sealed fv to reduce oxidation in hoppy beers, and hopefully it will last a lot longer than plastic.

£99,99 (incl. VAT) was £229,99

I'm still yet to use it as it's too tall to fit in my fermentation fridge and it's still a tad too warm for ambient temperatures.

Overall it seems great for the money. Nice silicone gasket around the lid. Full stopper and one with a 3 part air lock. Tap isn't the best as it's all one piece, but it is a ball lock still, so yet to find out how difficult it will be to clean.

I'm hoping to do a kettle sour, or saison within the next couple of weeks, so I'll update with any more info once I've used it.

What type of thermostat does it have?

Don't think it has a thermostat, it is just a fermenting vessel by the looks of it.
Don't think it has electrical connections / heating element etc does it?

According to the bumf it’s 240v so must have an element?

Hi all

I have this fv since Christmas, used it about six times and it is great. No thermostat or element in this, seals airtight. All welds no weld points in the inside so easy to clean and sanitize. Comes apart easily and the ball valve can be completely taken apart for cleaning, I would highly recommend them and I will be purchasing a second one

Thanks for clearing that up Darren.

With these vessels, how do you use the ball valve to transfer the brew out without getting the trub/sediment that will have settled at the bottom?

I syphon to a secondary vessel before bottling to avoid this ..

The ball valve is over the trub line, about an inch from the bottom so I just tack straight out the ball valve, I tilt a little at the end to get a little bit extra if I haven’t filled a corney. If bottling I would rack to secondary and batch prime

I received mine this week - it looks pretty decent. I’ve filled it up with water to test and I’m pretty happy with it.

I’m probably going to get a filter for the inside so I can bottle directly from the FV.

I managed to get it for £50 from Amazon when they dropped their price so doubley happy with it.

Really? What seller?its 80 quid just now direct from Klarstein.

50 is an absolute steal, fair play... will
Be looking out for that deal myself.

If I wasn’t batch priming for bottling I would fill bottles directly from the fv without a secondary. Secondary fermentation is going to happen in the bottle anyway, so filtering isn’t going to eliminate trub in the bottom of the bottle.

Just had a look - I paid £55.99 from “Klarstein United Kingdom” on Amazon.

Guess I got lucky with this one. I almost didn’t buy it thinking they must discount it often.

How sturdy is the fermenter? I wonder if it would hold pressure so it could be used for pressure fermentation- have you guys been impressed? A lot cheaper than any other stainless option. Could anyone post images of the lid where the bung fits? Is it flat or domed like the rest of the lid? I can't tell from the pictures on their website.

Cheers.

These are now £10 cheaper and an extra 10% off today with code 'blackfriday2018' anyone tempted?

They also do a 25ltr one for £10 less than this. Think this will be enough if you are closed fermenting and only every looking to fill 1 corney per brew?

Looks like this was for the 25 ltr. Got lucky there, wasn't that cheap for very long.
