An aside, I remember you used to be able to buy magic mushrooms until about 15 years ago, under the disclaimer that they weren't for consumption, until the law was changed. There was a shop in Manchester city centre that used to sell them in the same sort of tubs you buy strawberries in, it was just like buying groceries.

It's pretty mad that picking something up that is growing in a field makes you guilty of possession of a class A drug.

The only way round that law is to eat them directly from the ground (as being on drugs isn't a crime).

The mental image of that really makes me smile.

Well on the upside since fresh magic mushrooms became illegal HMRC determined that their sale was outside the scope of VAT.

At 63yrs old i was allowed to do things as a youngster that caused no harm to anyone,Yet today would see me locked up.

I don't think anything that gives one hallucinations is safe, considering how little is known about the human mind. "Physical" shouldn't be the only benchmark for safety. Having a hallucination might be the mind's way of saying, "Get that away from me."
I do wonder why nitrous oxide is necessary to propel whipped cream.

A chap I once met liked LSD sort of stuff and all the stuff that goes with it...he told me that his friend took some and ended up in a mental hospital...not good at 30..or any age...never came out.

Let's be honest anyway, what people are really upset about isn't the possible harm to their health N2O might be having on the kids using it, it's people getting upset at seeing all the used cartridges just dropped on the floor getting their ackles up! There's no altruism in the calls for a ban, just nimbys getting upset with littering. They're just as loud about takeaway wrappers...

I do wonder why nitrous oxide is necessary to propel whipped cream.

It makes the biggest volume of whipped cream, and helps reduce it turning rancid. It's also not flammable.
It's pretty much perfect, tbh.

There is a huge difference between the daft stuff us old farts used to get up to scrumping apples , smoking in the bike sheds at school etc and what some of the youth of today get up to (sniffing glue and inhaling chemicals to get high) John, or were you on the hard stuff when you were a nipper?

Every generation's had their own ways of getting messy. The Victorians loved cocaine and heroin. The hippies loved weed and acid. The mods loved speed. The punks loved whatever was cheap. The ravers loved MDMA. Your generation was just as high as every other.

Interesting. I'm not actually sure if I'd prefer my daughter to smoke fags than do the odd ballon of n2o.

I'm pretty sure sniffing glue came in the 70's as part of punk culture.
Tipp-ex thiners was a favourite in the 80's

Todays youth do:
Weed - strong skunk type - although sometimes it smells like everyone is/was doing this during lockdown when I went for a walk
NOS (N2O)
Mushrooms
Acid
Ketamine

My kids also report a couple of rich kids they know do coke too

Interestingly I think their useage drops off slightly when they hit 18 & can buy their own booze.
