Just wondering, what's with the heavy-handed moderation with regards to the new off the record forum? :?:

Saying that "there's no point in discussing it" seems odd, if you were to lock every pointless thread then the snug would be a very quiet place. Why can't the members discuss the forum amongst themselves without the mods/admin shutting it down? It's the members that make the forum. Those of us who have been here long enough might remember something similar happening several years ago that ended up decimating the forum.

I have just checked and the last thread on the first page was posted on Tuesday there is not a single locked thread on the first page.

Here is a screen shot of threads posted ion since Friday if there were any deleted threads or locked threads they would have a red line through them normal members wouldn't see this as its an indication to other mods, as you can see there are no such lines.

Can you tell me which threads have been locked for no reason?
My new post about the new 'Off The Record' forum has been moved into an older thread and that has now been closed for further comment.
And so I have no way of directly replying to the suggestion that I avoid some threads except to say that if I open a thread with a seeemingly innocuous title and one that I am interested in, and maybe get involved in it, I can later find its been 'hijacked' and moved off topic.

Third thread down on this screenshot is my locked thread which was merged with Terry's now locked thread.

The ones @terrym and I started about the new off the record forum were both locked and merged

I gave the reason in my reply in the thread i merged it with, there is no point in having several ongoing threads about the Off the record forum when i had already said there was no point in discussing this subject further in the one i merged it into, if you consider that heavy handed moderation fair enough i call it stopping further pointless discussion the Off Topic Forum is here to stay there is no point in discussing this further.

See my answer to SS in post #8

No threads are being moved to the 'Off The Record' forum THIS thread explains its purpose.

The OTR forum is a private forum for Supporting members not a dumping ground for threads that may offend certain member who cannot resist clicking on them even thought the content is clear from the thread title.

A simple solution - If you don't like the look of the thread title (in the snug) don't click on it, posts don't show in new posts just the title so you are not forced to read any thread content, if you want to steer clear of all political debate you have the option to do so.

No, the heavy-handedness is the locking of the thread, not the merging. Whether or not you find the thread pointless, can the members not discuss it amongst themselves?

As i have said several times now there is no point in discussing this further the decision to add the OTR forum was made by the owners (they have the same types of forums at our sister site) members are not missing anything as no threads from the snug will be moved to the OTR forum like they were to the Bridge for the reason i have posted see below.

As the original reason the OTR forum was introduced will have probably been lost in all this discussion here is a reminder -

We are trying to get members to support the forum as the £16 annual fee (or monthly £3 fee) helps pay for the upkeep of the forum there isn't much we can offer to persuade members to part with their hard earned money so the private forum was added to the list of advantages (see list below)

Angie -
This forum is so you can post without the bots and outsiders cannot see the content. Just the title.
Also, it does not have to be homebrewing related, please feel free to try it out. This is an area that only Supporting Members and staff can read the threads.

My first post -
As the forum title description says this is a private area for supporting members, normal forum rules apply but a little leeway might be allowed for certain topics if agreed before posting.
Search engine bots and non-supporting members cannot see the content of this forum so nothing posted here will appear in any searches engine results.

It's not great that the site owners aren't interested in what the site users think.

I am not sure if you are trolling as the explanation over this has been given several times, will answer anyway.

The Mod team introduced the bridge forum at a time when feelings over the governments handling of Covid was running very high and we were getting complaints from members who didn't want to see those threads listed in new posts in the Snug (even though the actual posts are not visible) the owners had no input in that decision as it wasn't needed.

Members haven't lost anything the snug is still there the OTR is a private forum for those that want to help pay for the upkeep of the forum how do you come to the conclusion the owners aren't interested in what the site users think as i have said members haven't had anything taken away.

The OTF was introduced for the reasons i have given several times and as i have said several times no one is forcing members to support the forum or use the OTR forum those that don't want to support the forum can carry on using the snug they will not be missing out as no threads from the snug will now be moved to the OTR forum for the reason below.

What would make you think I was trolling? I assume the owners of the site run it and its American version as a business. It's not great business practice to make a decision that affects customers and then shut down any feedback. Nothing trolly about that.

Chippy we understand the reasons, we've been told many times. It's the shutting down of any discussion about it that's the issue and the point of this thread. I don't think Linalmeemow was trolling at all, the fact that we've been told "there's no point in discussing it" demonstrates that he might be right.

As we are going round in circles

They didn't shut the feedback down i did for the reasons i have posted many times why have several threads on the same subject running when the outcome is not going to change i will post this again as it seems to not be sinking in.
