Can't really go wrong with John bull or Tom Caxton kits. Easy to make and are nice.
I'd go for a Coopers Lager.
It's a bit bland, but it's got a nice fresh taste to it that will suit many varied palates. It ferments easily (I've NEVER had one "stick") and it clears easily as well.

What style do you want and how long til you need it? You're looking at least 6 weeks possibly longer unless you can force carb.
As for kits...the Young's festival take some beating.

If you just want to make the kit 'as is' then look at the Festival or Bulldog ranges as there is a lot of choice there with everything included in the box.
If you like hoppy American styles, look at the Youngs American range.
Whatever you choose, don't rush it. 2 to 3 weeks in the fv and then 2 weeks warm conditioning and then cool conditioning for as long as you can (although they will be drinkable after 2 weeks in the bottle).

You're in Norfolk so maybe consider a Woodforde's Wherry kit, in my view, the best kit beer straight out of the can or pouch without having to make it better.
OK guys, quite a few comments. Time is on my side as it's 3 months on.
I have a brew fridge so it does matter the style of beer, just so long as it tastes good.

The Wherry is a lovely brew but they are notorious for "sticking"so ...
... you may need every minute of the time you have available to brew one!

We meet monthly, tasting each others beers and have a range of events through the year.
My favourite kit is Cwtch.

Best kits I've done are both from the Youngs American range - AIPA and APA.
Cwtch is also very good though.

add 1 kg of DME instead of sugar - trebles the quality !
