brewing stout - how short can you go?

My hydrometer reading skills are hit and miss, also my brew belt fell off my tub a week and a half in and the temp dropped right down but I didn’t realise. Anyway it never started again after that but may have gone lower if it wasn’t for that
 
If you plan to brew it really short it will require a fair amount time in the bottle so the high IBUs probably won't be a issue, I have a RIS that was brewed with 1 can Coopers Stout & a 2 can golden ale kit and brewed short to 8.5% abv its was terrible for the first 12 month, I still have a few bottles of this left (going on 4 years) as its a bit heavy on the alcohol for me to be fair and but tastes really good now.
