    Schwarzbier

Planning on doing an extract/kit based Schwarzbier later tonight both to use up some leftover ingredients and expediency as I am a bit pushed for time lately instead of doing my usual BIAB brews... So here's the plan: recipe taken from a US web site... with slight tweaks. 5 Gallons Better...

I realise a number of home brewers use Videne as a no rinse sanitiser although I haven't used it myself yet... I have been searching the manufacturers web sites and safety data sheets etc trying to find where using Videne is recommended for use, as a long term use, no rinse sanitiser and cant...

    The Journey to BIAB starts...

Up till now I have only done kits and some extract brews using speciality grains and DME in a smaller pot and extra hops to compensate for the reduced boil size... Decided to move up a step and don't really have the room for a major brewery setup so decided to go BIAB... So ordered a 50 litre...

    Woodforde’s Wherry started...

Set a Wherry kit on the go today after kegging my Caxton real ale. Only changes to the kit were the yeast. Set it going with 12g of Safale S-04. Heard lots of good things about this kit except that it sometimes sticks hence the better yeast choice... Can't wait !

    Sparklet plastic barrel cap

Once the natural pressure in a plastic barrel has fallen and you use a Co2 Sparklet bulb to add some pressure. Do you have to leave the bulb and holder attached to the cap ... or once it's vented into the barrel will the cap self seal so the bulb and holder can be removed ? Cheers... Tony
