air lock needed?

hello, I've just bought my first home brew kit.

i am going to try the copper ale from wilkos first.

my fermentation bucket has no air lock fitted.

will i need to put one in for an ale, not sure as it didn't come as part of the kit.

If youve not got one then just rest the lid on the FV so the CO2 can escape
