airlock on FV for wine?

Just bought my first wine kit to try out. Instructions state that FV must be fitted with an airlock. Is this essential? Mine currently dont have them.

No a airlock isnt essential on a FV. If your using a DJ then its a must.

I frequently just use a cottonwool plug with a DJ, but only while it's in active ferment.
