Luckily I found both at work.
Distilled water reads 1.004
De ionized water reads 1.002
Tap water reads 1.002
Pictures in the order of tap water, De ionized then distilled. The tap water is freezing out the tap so theres some warm in there making it hazy.

Maybe for the process of how it is made, but they are both ultra pure water at the end of the process and both can be used for the same purpose. So yes as a marine tank owner i do know the process is different, but not that different that i cannot use one over the other.

I've thought about using the water from our condenser tumble drier to check my hydrometer but it hardly seems worth it since it doesn't float straight in any case. :-?
