Your comments are lovely but I'm really just the messenger in this case, the credit properly belongs to Dave Lannigan at Ride Brewing Co who was kind enough to offer up the hops. As for sharing beers made with them, again I don't think it's fair to put people under that expectation as these were offered here as 'free'. I was in two minds whether to bill for postage at all since it did rather break the idea of the offer I'd put up here as it was. My enjoyment from this has been in facilitating good things for other people, I've learnt a lot about vacuum sealing, and I do owe an apology for one or two of the packages where the vacuum failed a bit and I had to reseal them.

@Broken Toe I don't think there will be left over once I'm done packaging but I'll see. A couple of the packages were a bit short on weight because either there was more limited stock than I expected (the goldings) or I ran out of vac pack roll and it was all I could fit in what was left. I've also a few to send still, I might get some time today to pack them down but I'm not sure.

Anna
Thank you so much for keeping me in mind

Thank you very much for doing this, it's really appreciated.

Just for reference, these were all packed with me wearing fresh nitrile gloves for cleanliness reasons. I’m sorry but I think the vacuum failed on a couple of the packs - I did add an extra seal but my apologies if the seal didn’t hold. This was quite a learning experience for using the vacuum sealer. They were also all stored in my brew fridge - I couldn’t freeze that large a volume but it was the best I could do. I hope you get some really good beers out of them.

Anna

Cheers Anna as the hops have arrived in fine condition.. Cheers again.

Hi Anna I received mine all good as I PM'ed you yesterday. A little assistance in vacuum packing I have had the same problem and I think it is the type of bags that are used some pack really tight and stay tight and some vac down them soon lose some of the compactness quite quickly but do not seem to go right down if you know what I mean.
I think the cheap rolls seem the worst.

Has anyone brewed using the hops yet. I just dry hoped a English golden ale with 50g of summit. First time using leaf hops, I under estimated how much space they take up.

I went for a English golden ale
4kg plumage archer malt
500g wheat

First gold leaf hops throughout then summit at flameout and dry hop. I just checked the gravity it's at 1.010 so I dry hopped. I will keg on Wednesday or Thursday

I have done Summit on its own in a golden/blonde type ale, it was very nice and had a slightly fruity flavour like a subdued IPA type hop and have just today done it again with a little chinook in this time.
It was like a type of Farmers Blonde and ideal for sunny day quaffing
I whirlpooled to keep the IBU's lower than a normal addition as it was 15.5 AA

Might give them a try, I'm a bit paranoid about the onion / garlic flavours apparently they can give later in the boil. 😁

I tested the hydrometer sample of my Old Ale I brewed with summit as the bittering hop and they seem to give a lovely pronounced, but smooth, bittering flavour.

Opinion seems to be very split on summit. I did a good bit of reading and came across very conflicting information.

I have used the Summit hops for dry hopping and haven't noticed any particular garlic or onion character. Doubtless there are variables at play and I suspect it may be one of those things where some people are more sensitive to it then others e.g. if you actively dislike whatever seems like a possible onion or garlic note.
