Hi all

Just a quick intro thanks for the welcome - I am new to the forum in fact new to any - not Facebook etc never have.

Also new to brewing but not new to beer - I have always wanted to do this so saved some pennies and took the plunge - most kit is second hand. I am starting off with the gf30 following a short course in craft beer brewing - currently at the sponge level, all info is going in so really happy to hear tips and support - in return I can keep you amused with my progress!

Thanks

Hi Ian, tell us where you’re based, what beers you like, what you’re brewing, and what you’re drinking - we’re always interested!

Ask any questions you like, many of us will give you an opinion! 😂. Seriously, there’s no such thing as a stupid question - we all knew little when we started.

…and welcome!

Welcome to the Forum. I don’t do the whole Social Media thing either. But this is a fantastic forum and full of priceless info and lovely folk. Happy brewing.

Hi all and thanks for the messages - yep that’s me in the video !
Based in South Manchester UK
I enjoy a range of beers having lived all over the world - appreciate crisp lager (mainly German) but really my heart is with IPA, hoppy beers and also Pale ales - like most depends on the mood and the session - no to anything with chocolate in. No brand stands out as I often find I like some and not others from the various breweries.
I have made no beer yet the last of my gear arrived today and I also picked up a second hand fridge (heaters and temp control all ready to install). I am a Design Engineer by trade so very much plan all the gear and study before I dive in - but fully know the mistakes will come (otherwise) how will I learn !? I have some grain etc ready - will post when I am ready to go - thanks for your support and advice.

Welcome to the forum.

I've always preferred forums and I've administered /modded on ones including my own. I don't bother with the social media stuff either.

There is a wealth of information on here and experience from other members.

It seems to me there are two sides to this learning curve: learning how to make beer and learning how to use your kit. If I were you, I'd get a brewing bag, a picnic cooler box and a plastic bucket and learn how to make beer on the cooker first. Unless you understand this, you won't really get what's going on with your more sophisticated gear.

Ian,
Enjoy, and prepare for lots of bad language, panic and frustrations on brew days (or is that just me?).
I’ve found everyone here to be fantastically helpful and when it comes to brewing there really is no such thing as a daft question.
Go for it….

Welcome to the forum. I'd recommend checking out the thread called Have a go at simple AG - found in the how to guide (maybe someone else can do a link as I've no idea 😂). Enjoy brewing🍻🍻

A warm welcome Ian, and second hand is excellent 😄. I'm always a bit surprised there isn't more available on gumtree and ebay for brewing, it seems to get snapped up quickly whenever some is available. The forum here is fab, dangerously encouraging though too!
