Hop cuttings

Really hoping a fellow homebrewer can help me . I am after a couple of cuttings of some hops . Would really like some fuggles and maybe either goldings or saaz. Hoping some1 out there will have some cuttings or rhizomes.Will pay cost and p&p as well . cheers guys n gals :

Wrong time of the year to take cuttings....wait till the spring

I don't see why it would be bad to take cuttings now

so long as the vines are still with leaves

taking them now and growing over winter indoors
would give the root a chance to establish
and perhaps even some first year harvest

plant them out in the spring :thumb:

I took some cuttings a few months back
there is no new growth on top
but the roots are looking great
they will go out after the last frost
if I don't forget to water them
and they survive the winter in pots !

Hops are quietly at the top of my list for my "wifes" allotment.

She also wants a vine growing up the side of the house... :lol:

there are no hops growing above ground they die off and grow again next year. like flowers :)

You take root cuttings from them in early spring.

It will be too early to plant out your hop cuttings in Spring 2014. If they are in pots then leave them in the pot for another 12 months. Though these cuttings will have grown roots, they will have not formed a rhizome, this is where all the energy is stored. your cuttings are at the stage now where they are taking the nutrients out of the compost/soil just to stay alive. Taking cuttings from hop plants is very easy (Ive done hundreds with probably a 95% strike rate), but you have to do it when conditions are right. Don't forget hop cuttings will be at least 2 years behind a rhizome.

Ty Johny for that . I will still keep some hope alive that i can get some . Space where im planting will be in pots and very sheltered.
