It's all ******** promoted by neo temperance movement scaring the government into how costly alcohol related issues are for the NHS.
Also trying to hide the fact that we need to effectively ration NHS due to cost & available trained staff numbers.
If you follow "Shut up about Barclay-Perkins" you can see that it is not so neo, especially in Britain. Here on the continent it is less, but I have the impression that certain elements of Dutch Protestantism have crept into the medical world to do the same.

I'm half proud and half ashamed to admit that I can do pretty much double the high amount most weeks. A bottle of wine a night most nights plus a few beers on the rare occasions I get to go out can add up pretty quickly. I do try to give my long suffering liver a rest every few months though.

Just for one moment imagine living a life were you are counting kcals sugar intake red meat butter full fat milk units of alcohol, well i am 71 now i had 2 not 1 lovely lamb steaks boiled spuds and cabbage for my dinner with a 2L bottle of cider and it wer bloody lovely, now on the hazy jane, so to all the lilly livered folks who think they know best feck off and take a hike you sad feckers :beer1:

During my recent stay in hospital the nurse brought out the alcohol chart and asked how many units did i drink. Nit knowing how many I drank I said 14, based in her chart. She said that was good but at the limit and I would feel better if I halved it.

It actually turns out it's less. I had 5 drinks over the weekend and that was 12 units. From now on I am using the formula to work it out as I don't tend to drink from a pint glass. Abv×vol/1000 =units.
