Yup! Basically safety spears are to stop people blowing their heads off in pub cellars (also act as a form of tamper evidence).

you can cut the tab bit off a safety one to make it 'unsafe' :wha: .

When you are putting the coupler on you are tightening the thread, when you are taking it off you are loosening but usually people wont use much force removing them and besides there is a fairly long thread and you hear the hiss before much chance that you get decapitated.

Why would you remove the safety at all? Just to make the removal process quicker?

There are quite afew safety`s out there some are more difficult to remove than others.

But yes its less hassle to have to do the extra step everytime. BUT if in doubt always play safe.

You can get special tools but they are expensive. As these are for private use then if used properly and the procedure is followed they are safe without the safety catches. They are on there for brewery workers who handle these at speed and do it all the time. One forgetful moment and you can be seriously hurt. It all about industrial health and safety. As homebrewers we are not so concerned about haste so can take our time and follow the procedure of degassing first.

I want to know will all these brilliant pictures of beer porn be blocked under Cameron's plans

Thanks Vossy, will take a look at them as I don't think the 19lt cornies will be big enough for me now and would like to brew to 50l :)
