Mashing a brew tonight and now have some questions

from reading on here it seems like 10 degree heat loss is about right so what temp to sparge at in the morning .

its going to be wrapped up as well as poss but what if it loses say 30 degrees what temp to sparge at for that possibility.

here is the brew

Original Gravity (OG): 1.059 (°P): 14.5
Final Gravity (FG): 1.015 (°P): 3.8
Alcohol (ABV): 5.80 %
Colour (SRM): 13.1 (EBC): 25.8
Bitterness (IBU): 30.8 (Average)

81.3% Maris Otter Malt
8.13% Wheat Malt
5.69% Caramalt
4.88% Crystal 120

1.3 g/L Challenger (6.1% Alpha) @ 60 Minutes (Boil)
2.1 g/L Cascade (7.8% Alpha) @ 10 Minutes (Boil)
1.1 g/L Fuggles (5.7% Alpha) @ 0 Days (Dry Hop)

Single step Infusion at 66°C for 90 Minutes. Boil for 90 Minutes

Fermented at 20°C with

Notes: over night mash starting at 66 c

sparge temp

60 mins boil hard

cool to very cold and let settle for min 30 mins 1 hour if poss.

warm back up to 18C and pitch yeast .

You need to sparge so that your grain bed is 76c, though to be honest there will not be any enzyme action to stop but a warmer wort will allow the sugars to be washed out easier. i have sparged at 90c with overnight mashes and the wort cam out ok though my mashes usually end up in the low 50's c.

Thanks Graysalchemy
would it be good to run in some of the hot sparge water before I recirculate the first runnings
to get some of the heat back in to the grains

Whoo Whoo exceeded my expectations by lots
had it wrapped up in 2 sleeping bags and the Hi vis jacket for safety and it only lost 5 degrees c over 8 hours

got todays brewing off to a great start sparge going in at 90 c as per Grays post

even then the wort was coming out at around 55c

Sparge device was a bucket bottom I found that was a nice snug fit in the Igloo

and some lovely sweet wort dribbling out

also went for some first wort Hops

30 litres now bubbling away nicely will be cleaned up and yeast pitched before the wife even wakes up :thumb:

it may be the future this overnight mashing

Boil all done and dusted and chilled down to 17 degrees would not seem to go any colder

looks like a brain has grown in the bottom during the settlement time

the clearest wort I have seen from any of my brews it seems like having breakie while it settles down is a good thing ,

yeast pitched at around 18 c and tucked up in the fermenting cupboard

I rather like the look of your Igloo mash tun. Do you mind me asking where you got it from? ;)

Found it on Amazon 65 quid. . I still like it
