reducing water in kit

what effect will this have if i reduce 40 pint lager kit to 32 pints. i'm trying to make stronger without adding more sugar, will this have the desired effect
 
Yep, it will make it stronger without watering down the taste as would happen if you simply added mroe sugar to your 40 pint kit.

This is the best way to improve ABV from a kit I believe.
 
Yeah it's def better than whacking in extra sugar, i tried that it didn't taste great :oops:
I would make the kit up as normal to 32 pints then take an og reading, then using the figure the kit says it will ferment to you should be able to get a rough idea of what % it will be. If this works out too strong for you, you could then add some extra water to make it up to 36 pints and see what that's like. Then chuck ur yeast in and off you go :cheers:
