You Bet It Was :drink:

I was able to brew on Sunday. I put together a quick recipe for an APA using my homegrown Centennial and Cascade hops. This is the first opportunity I've had to use them since harvesting last October. :hmm:

Smells amazing in the fermenter today! Since I've never used my own hops before (last year was only the second year since I planted them) I had no idea what the outcome would be. Hopefully they are bitter enough but either way, I made beer! :thumb:

Good on you Barry. What size harvest did you get from your hops?

I've got mine in for this year - but as its the first year in the ground I'm not expecting too much.

Tony,
The first year, I only got a couple of cones. The second year (last year), they went nuts. I think I ended up with almost 2 lbs of each once they were dried!

There's only one word for that... those are beautiful!

Outstanding work, were the pics taken on the harvest day?

It's not quite beer porn but a close second!

Those pics were taken about a month or so before harvest. I'm expecting an even bigger harvest this year. We're still working on getting the harvesting/drying process nailed down. My dad and I built a drying oast that made quick work of drying them all. I need to pick up a vacuum sealer this year so I can get them properly packaged. Once I get that all taken care of, I could be convinced to ship some to the UK.

Do you guys use our citrusy American hops very often?

Barry

Barry  Fantastic.....   There are quite a few of us on this forum growing our own Hops this year..including me ;) ...so your efforts will be an insperation to us all :D I live in one the northern most parts of the country so not building my hopes up too much to get anything like you have

I live in the northern part of the US. Most, if not all, of our commercial hops are grown in the Pacific Northwest which has a much different climate than where I live. It gets VERY cold here in the winter and summer seems really short. So I didn't have very high expectations for my crop. This certainly surpassed anything I ever imagined, especially on only year 2!

What type of hops do you guys grow?
