Sealing the pressure barrel

Hopefully some time soon my ferment will finish, but in the meantime I'm getting ready for the transfer to the barrel.

One thing I've noticed is that many people recommend a smear of Vaseline on the lid thread to aid sealing. Being a bit of an awkward sod , I wondered why use a messy think like Vaseline with the intendent possibility of contaminating the brew. Whey not use PTFE tape instead. I'm not wishing to question the collective wisdom of the homebrew community :whistle: , but is there any reason not to use PTFE tape?

Whilst being messy, vaseline is completely harmless to beer.
It does aid sealing, but it's major role is to ensure you can unscrew the cap after you've supped your brew.
