So a dose of this would probably do it, in a pretty neutral pale ale.

Basically, you are wanting to reproduce the flavour of caramel, so a recipe containing in a variety of low colour crystal malts and perhaps Simpsons Imperial Malt will get the same effect.
 
I never thought of just dumping a cake flavouring in it.

That’s got me thinking - I could do a really chocolatey stout and make it like a whole crunchy rather than just the middle bit :)

Or brew a separate honeycomb pale and a chocolate milk stout, then Black and Tan them.
