Well pick the mattress up and stand on the bathroom scales

Take a note of the weight

Put the mattress down and stand on the scales again and note the weight again

Go and have a lie down on the mattress
Nice one Obadiah. Even if you could lift it off the floor (the weight is not the issue, it's a general floppiness) you have to hug it to you. And you can't see the scales. Neither can anyone else as the mattress covers the reading.
FEBRUARY CHALLENGE: who can come up with the most ingenious way of weighing a proper, sprung, double mattress? You then have to do it to show that it works.

Sounds like you have experience in the matter

Need to ponder your challenge

Mine is a superking monster- Im a big boy but I struggle to shift it. Especially as the bar stewards dont put blooming lifting handles on them!

The oldest condoms ever found date back to the 1640s (they were found in a cesspit at Dudley Castle), and were made from animal and fish intestines.

This is somewhat of an improvement on the welsh method, which left them in the sheep...

Almost 163,000 pints of Guinness are wasted in facial hair each year.
weird facts

An actual research study commissioned by Guinness found that an estimated 162,719 pints of Irish stout go to waste every year… via mustaches. The study found that 0.56 milliliters of Guinness get trapped in the average beard or mustache with each sip. And it takes about 10 sips to finish a pint.

Same, took me and 3 polish chaps to massage it up and around the staircase when I moved house. I hope I never have to move again, might just leave it behind and save myself the trouble!

Ok - got the answer

It needs 3 of you, a plank of wood, bathroom scales, the mattress and a six foot chocolate frog

So put the plank on the scales and weigh it (weight no. 1)

Two of you get on the plank which is still on the scales and record the weight again (this is the 3rd persons job) (i.e. weight no 2)

Go and get the mattress and the two people get back on the plank on the scales holding the mattress above the dial so the third person can see the weight (weight no 3)

Subtract 2 from 3 and hey presto you have weighed the mattress!

go on, I’ll bite - what’s the choccy frog for? (I know I’ll regret this....)

Nice one OB, you could always take your matress on a family vacation abroad (post Covid asad1) and say it's hand luggage, when they weigh it and say it's too heavy ask them to post the weight on this forum. Second thoughts, scrap that, who has a bag that big. Also intrigued about the choccy frog

A 10 year old mattress weighs twice as much as when you bought it new.

The mattress isn't really twice the weight it just feels like it because you are 10 years older and not as fit as you used to be. ;)
