What a silly day to brew, 31C!

Silly day for a brewday, but what the hell!
3.5kg Pale malt
0.25 Kg Xtal malt
0.25 Kg Wheat malt
40g Fuggles, FWH
20g Goldings at 70 mins

HLT and Mash Tun set up for under letting


Grain filter, (many thanks Nick).

After a quick stir, liquor and grain “doughed” in

Boil with 1 No. 2.2kW element, 2 No. Used to bring to boil.


Rapid cooling using CFC into Conical Fermenter.


OG 1041, could have been better!

As an experiment I increased the HERMS temp to 69C near the end of the mash.
It took 3 mins for the HERMS out to reach temp and 10 mins for the mash to reach temp.

Great photos and very jealous of your setup :)

I did a brew yesterday too - sweltering - did take some pics so will post today I expect... it's furiously fermenting at 26 degrees- right on the limit of the yeast. Was a 2 gallon batch to chilled down well to 20 degrees.

just did a brew - took the day of for a brew day and did not take the weather/temp into consideration enought - but did do a saison style beer with saison yeast so hopefully will be okay with the higher temps - we shall see tomorrow

This is what phettebs keeps telling me.
The only prob at the mo is the "lagering"

well no plan is perfect - but given the uk weather history - should be back to sub 16c and raining by next week (this is Wales) so the garage floor will be back to single figures :grin:
