Had my first go at making a witbier on Sunday.
Was going to try the kiwheat beer from Home Brew Beer book but found I had some Hull Melon hops and Lidl had some nice melons in
So stuck with the fruity theme but went melon instead of kiwi.
Batch size: 4ltr
Total grain: 1kg
Total hops: 9g
Original Gravity (OG): 1.042
Final Gravity (FG): 1.011 (hopefully)
Colour (SRM): 2.7
Bitterness (IBU): 24.8
Brewhouse Efficiency (%): 67
Boil Time (Minutes): 60
Grain Bill
----------------
0.5 kg Belgian Pilsner (50%)
0.5 kg Belgian Wheat malt (50%)
Hop Bill
----------------
5g Hull melon 5.6% @ 60 minutes
4g Hull Melon 5.6% @ 5 minutes
Misc Bill
----------------
3g Coriander seed @ 5 minutes.
Single step Infusion at 66°C for 60 Minutes.
Fermented at 20°C with Safbrew WB-06
Will ferment for 4-5 days then add the juice of 500 grams of watermelon straight into the primary, which should hopefully kick start the fermenting again?
Am not 100% sure how I'll check the abv on this :hmm:
First time I've done BIAB and it's brought my efficiency down a fair bit, fine for this recipe as I didn't want too high an OG as am adding the melon later on which should increase the abv.
