I'm wondering weither to take the great eastern off this weekend or not. I will check for 3 readings first but taken tonight it seems a little dark still and at 1014 from a start of 1040 its not going to give me a very high strength, not 4.5 as box states. It looked like black treacle to start with.

Is this about right by everyone elses? :?:

mine went 1050 to 1013, though i had used 500g sugar too increase abv.

Dry hopped with 50g goldings. Turned out a really nice drink, one of my best.

I have some Admirals revenge at 10 days in the FV is it too late to dry hop it?

If yours started out at 1050 I am wondering if this is indeed great eastern, was boxed as such but it seems to dark to me. I'm going to barrel it today anyway and we'll see what we think to it in 4 weeks. I suppose that the wrong can's could end up in the wrong box occasionally.

I probably brewed it to a little less than 23 litres too, though i don't remember. Mine wasn't particularly light either.

The tin of malt will have a serial number printed on it, so if you are unsure about packaging you could contact woodfordes (muntons) and give them the serial number to double check.
