I hate to see the water meter run too. I can't eliminate it but I do reduce it.

There is no hose adapter available for my faucet. I bought a fountain pump. I place it in a bucket in my sink and connect it to my wort chiller. I run tap water into the bucket and the pump runs water through the chiller. This water goes down the drain.

Once down to 45C or so I drop 4 kilos of ice into the bucket and put the outlet hose from the chiller into the bucket so I'm now recirculating the water. This will get me down to 16C pretty quick. If I used more ice I could drop it faster staring at a higher temperature but, the system I have works for me. I can drop 12 liters to pitching temp in about 30 minutes.
