help guys...

my wherry has been in keg for about 10 days, had problem with co2 valve, had to replace it at wilkos, vasalines up thread on new lock, but since then the samples have no head and look flat,

should I re prime????

What are people batch priming their wherry with for bottles? Got about 20L, would 80g table sugar be about right?

I like a good bit of fizz and did mine with 120g but that might be too much for a lot of ale drinkers. I think between 80-100 is probably standard. My batch was brewed short to 20L.

Just drinking my 1st of three Wherry kits and have got to say it's turn out fantastic. Would definitely recommend it, especially for any one just starting. Can't wait to start my next Wherry kit. :drink:

help! had this conditioning on a cold floor for nearly 6 weeks... and its still cloudy, still flat and when i opened up the lid, ive noticed a thin film on top of the beer  :/ ive had reservations about it from the start, but wouldnt know what to compare its taste to as ive never drunk wherry before. to me it tastes very citrusy and has a distinct 'tang'. my dad reckons its got a sulphurous odour to it too.

ive got some finings kits which i was gonna add to try clear it, but then dont know if i can attempt to re-prime afterwards? or has this kit been a disaster and needs pouring away before i waste any more money and time on it???

contrary to the last post, with its potential for 'stuck' fermentations, difficulty reaching required S.G, dodgy yeast types requiring a variety of temps and the length of time required to condition also varying; id say there are much easier beginner kits to make!

If it smells of egg your goosed . I would say youve not sanitised properly. Have you tried to drink it?

i dont think it smells tbh, but dont overly like the taste... coincidence or not, after having a mouthful sample a few weeks back, ive had dodgy guts every time ive been on the beer! i think i may give it up as a bad job. (the Hoppy Copper kit has worked fantastically well with the addition of medium malt sprey, so that will be ready to drink soon enough anyway!)

Ive brewed wherry drinking now i made the mistake of adding extras. Still drinkable the woodforde kits are spot on

I've brewed Wherry a few times with great success, but now I feel I need to try a few changes. So I'm planning to add a little honey to the hot mix, then make it up to 20 litres. When bottling I will add a little demerara and see what happens. Any thoughts?

Brewed 2014 approx 170 pints

Ive almost finished my first keg. and it was very enjoyable, easy to follow instructions which is ideal for the newbie..... i will defiantly do it again instead ill bottle it and let it mature rather then leaving it in the PB (plus it frees up my PB for another batch!!!).

W7 on the crown caps.
You can't really go wrong with a wherry kit. all seven have been pretty good.
The first, and my 2nd HB ever, I mistakenly put a teaspoon of sugar in each bottle. Boy was it sweet and eruptive!

The 4th, was eruptive as well, but i think this was down to not leaving it long enough.

WHY oh WHY do they say to bottle after 5 days! :-o

Ten days to two weeks is more like it. I've yet to use my hygrometer, but seeing as the utility room is a constant 20 degrees come summer or winter, I expect to have a good fermentation.

Good head and stays with the drink to the finish. Consistant taste and a nice pint.

I think it could handle a slightly more citrusy hoppiness to it, but thats probably just me.

I brew a WW every other brew, to keep my store stocked up!

Oh, and finally, good things come to those that wait.

Brew it, bottle it, forget it. Brew another and drink that if you must! 8 weeks in bottles and its a different drink.

Just ordered two Wherry beer kist before I read this thread so good to read it's okay! Wilko have it on offer at £14.25 which isn't bad for a 3kg kit.

Got a few strong beers going so wanted a lighter one for sessions.

Ok, I've now had this in the bottle for about 6 weeks and it is the best brew i've ever made. Came out at around 4.7%, a lot darker but so much more body and flavour. Will deffo try this again. If you are not fussed on Wherry try this little experiment

Folks, can I ask a basic question..... When the Wherry instructions say to put beer in a 'cool' place for 2 weeks after conditioning, what exactly does 'cool' mean in centigrade, broadly speaking? Is a shed ok, so long as it does not freeze? Is there a minimum?

Four Wherry kits delivered to the Isle of Skye for £60 from Wilko's. That is fantastic value for one of my favourite brews.
Looking forward to a little 'experimentation' with them over the standard kit, prob brew a little shorter and use Demerara as mentioned previously for a bit more 'kick'. My missus likes it too so licence to brew as much as I like....

Good luck with the experiments, Redron. :p

Am making my third Saison style beer using a Wherry as the base kit.

As Saison #2 dropped to 1.003 I have high hopes for the blighter not sticking at 1.020. :hmm:

This was my second home brew and I am really pleased with how it turned out.

Made as per instructions, OG was 1041. Got my FV sat on an old seed heating tray that I have timed to come on and then off every few hours which I have found keeps things at a constant 19c in my garage.

FG was 1008, after 3 weeks in the FV.

Bottled with mix of coopers carb drops (had some left over) and white sugar for others.

3 weeks in warm conditioning, then moved to the garage for cold conditioning.

First sample after a couple of days of cold conditioning was promising. But now, after nearly two weeks I am really impressed. Lovely smooth flavour, decent head. Will try to keep off it for a couple more weeks (might be hard) but if it tastes this good after a little under 5 weeks conditioning, can't wait to see how good this can get.
