Hello All, I recently dusted off and sterilised my 30 year old Hambleton Bard Rotokeg to give brewing another go for the first time in around 20 years. I thought I'd start off with a kit to keep things relatively simple, and to see how they've improved from the old Tom Caxtons I used in my early years of brewing. I chose Woodforde's Wherry, as I always liked this beer on draught, but I'm already having issues! No doubt I'll be back for some advice soon. Happy brewing!

Welcome to the forum.
If you are reusing an old PB I strongly advise you at least pressure test before you put beer into it, or better renew all the sealing gaskets and then pressure test. PBs are notoriously leaky and its better to sort any problems before committing a brew.
But the good news is beer kits are much improved since you last brewed 20 years ago, but personally I would avoid 1.5kg kits

Thank you Terry, I filled the PB with hot water and turned it upside down, the lid was fine but I bought a new sealing ring anyway, but the tap had become stiff and did leak a little so I've replaced that. I've swapped my old CO2 cylinder for a new one and tested it on the PB via the lid valve and all seems fine. Before I get to the PB stage however, I've got some problems at the fermentation stage - which was a factor in my joining the forum.
Would you advise me to discuss the problems in this introductory thread, or make a new post with a more relevant title?

Probably best to start a new thread imo.

Hi mate
Just joined today myself - last brew I did was August 1992 so a bit rusty myself !!
Think we going to find things a bit different, kit wise.
I have just dusted down and cleaned my old barrel - a Rotokeg !!
Ordered a compl, ete new top cap and tap as the old ones were in a bad way.
My first new brew will be a Courage Directors.
Good luck fellow newbie
Cheers Jon

Thanks Jon! Good luck with the Directors - had some heavy sessions on that when I was way younger!!
