Lager priming - should I add yeast?

I'm planning to brew my first lager (Pilsner) in the next few weeks and as with anything new, I've come up with some questions. I've looked and searched on the forums and elsewhere and there's a common suggestion to add some yeast before batch priming a lager. I've never had any issues before...

brew-tools - Tools for the homebrewer's command line

A little while back I posted this in /r/homebrewing and thought I would also share here. I made a little command line tool in Python 3 for homebrewers who want quick access to some common calculators via the commandline. Understandably not for the majority of people, but there are a few out...

    Bubble size changing over time

I was drinking my latest wheat and noticed the bubbles in the head were a bit big. A week later the same batch now has much finer bubbles. Now this could be due to glass cleanliness and all sorts, or simply just to time. Anyone else notice a change the consistency of bubbles in the beer's head...

    Blind beer tasting videos

A friend and myself started a YouTube channel where we take turns selecting a beer and letting the other taste it without knowing what it is. Not sure which forum would be suitable, so I thought the snug would be ok Anyway, here's the link to our latest video. Feedback and comments appreciated

    Spare auto siphon valve

So I managed to lose the little valve from my auto siphon. It seems as though it fell out at some point and then got thrown away by the missus not knowing what it was. The part I am referring to is the bit at the bottom of this pic Is there anywhere I can buy just that part? Or on the off...

    Mashtun drainage/filter vs efficiency

I have a square Igloo cooler with a round false bottom (kinda like this one https://www.brewuk.co.uk/delux-insulated-mash-tun.html) and my efficiency isn't great. I was wondering if I were to make a copper "grid" like this https://cdn2.brewersfriend.com/copper1.jpg can I expect a better...

    Fermentation stopped but still krausen

I've got a batch fermenting with S05 and the gravity has stopped falling, but there's still thick krausen on top. It has fallen since pitching, but I can't see through it at all. On Tuesday it would have been in primary for two weeks. I upped the temp one °C yesterday to give the yeast a chance...

    Replanting a hop plant

There's a wild hop plant growing just up the road from me and I was thinking about taking a "copy" to care for myself. I've no idea how to successfully accomplish this, so what do I need to know, in order to grow my own from this plant, is that's possible?

    Getting a brewing license

I'm just curious what's involved in getting a license to brew beer. A friend of ours is in a position to take over a pub and was wondering what it would take to open a small brewery on the premises. I'd love to offer to brew part time, but I am unsure about how much effort/cost is involved in...

    I caught something. Now what?

So I tried my hand at catching some wild yeast about 3-4 weeks ago. It appears I caught something https://imgur.com/a/1Sqb9 I made a simple 1.030 DME which was lightly hopped. Placed a couple of jars of it in the garden overnight with some muslin cloth on (all boiled for 15 minutes). In the...

    Upside down tap

I was just cleaning my FV and took apart the tap and noticed that I can insert it upside down. It would appear to work fine, but I was wondering if anyone else had done this and could confirm whether or not this works. Basically I expect it would reduce the amount of trub you get out of the tap...

    Might have an infection

Currently fermenting a weizen using WLP300. Everything went well and was bubbling away at 21C for a few days, waft of bananas coming out of the fridge. Decided to take a gravity sample today (day 5) and pretty much at FG. As usual I took a taste. Firstly the smell was a little off, but the taste...

Any opinions on Speidel 30l plastic FV

I'm currently working with the usual buckets and have no real issues, but I am aware they have a finite life span. I'm not quite ready to splash out on steel buckets (I'd also need a bigger fridge I think), so I was looking at the Speidel 30l fermenters Is it worth using these over buckets...
