Many years ago I made wine with dried elderberries and very nice it was .....

Therefore I was interested to see someone selling dried elderberries for birdfood. I am sure the birds would love it. Looking at the price incl postage for 1 kg is about £8, whereas those sold for winemaking are that for 1/2 kg. I would expect you could use them for winemaking but they may be lower grade (how do you grade elderberries?).
Anyone got experience of this?

Why not just go and pick your own for free?

Surely they can't have completely finished yet, even down South.

I went elderberry picking last weekend and absolutely loads of bunches were almost completely dry, and with minimal effort could have been saved as 'dried fruit'.

In fact it was actually difficult finding bunches of un-shrivelled berries.

Fair enough David, but it probably still depends upon compass direction.

I stopped for no more than 10 minutes on my way home today and got another 3-4 lbs, but just around the corner they were well past their best.

This wasn't a spot I knew previously, it was an “Oh, elderberries! .... Can I park? Yes. Go get 'em”.

Noted for next year.
