Hi, guys, from Bruges here! Some things that have changed in the meantime. There is now a beer museum, in the same street as De Garre. There is also another brewery which you can visit, Bourgogne des Flandres, from John Martin. If you want to buy beer in Bruges, do not go to the "Wollestraat", its expensive and they do not have much more beers than the supermarkets. So if you have good transport, go to one of the supermarkets (Carrefour, Albert Heyn, Delhaize). They have a terrific choice at good prices.

That's excellent advice - I bought some of the rarer beers from the specialist shops (de Struise and Westvleteren) and then went to the Carrefour on Katelijnestraat to stock up on more common stuff at much more realistic prices. I'd love to get out to a hypermarket to see just how impressive the range of beers is!

I was just chatting to a friend at the start of the week who recommended the Bourgogne des Flanders brewery. He also lent me a book "around Bruges in 80 beers" so with that and all the help on this thread its going to be a great trip to a great place:thumb:

On your way back, why not pop in to Cité Europe, Calais. Visit 'Terre de Boisons' on the ground floor. They stock an amazing range of beers, wines & spirits at supermarket prices. Or upstairs you'll find a Carrefour.

not been to terre de boisons but carrefour and auchan in dunkirk I can vouch for. I make a detour via vanuxeem in ploegsteert even mrs DOJ loves it there

I just remembered another new and nice venue to eat and drink, it's called 'Jilles' and it is located near the fish market: http://www.jilles.be/en. They serve some 30 or 40 different burgers, and pair them with the accompanying beer.
