I'm on the run up to retirement, so I'm dusting off my old hobbies. I haven't brewed since 1981, but I've been sampling the commercial beers to gain experience in tasting and style comparison. I've read that you need a good hobby in retirement to keep the brain active, so drinking beer is my way of keeping healthy.

Great idea, Thos, I would heartily recommend "jumping in at the deep end" as the saying goes. By this I mean, brewing from grain rather than from extract very soon. The best (ever) starter for what I mean is the "Have a go at Simple All Grain" thread - the very first post is all you need!

Am six months from retirement myself and sought a robust and manly occupation for my endless leisure hours.

I retired in 2013, never been so busy!
Brewing is only 1 of my hobbies - and the saving in money is welcome!
Good to have you with us Thos & happy brewing :thumba:
Cheers
