As title suggests I'm brewing the Shipyard Rye Pale Ale which is version though still a bit higher in the ABV this time I have all 5 hops which I know as I got it direct from Maine themselves.
First proper brew in a while and already winging with water as I'm only back from work and it's going to be a while.
Water additions for now then get the grains sorted and hopefully water will be up to temp.

Had 465g of wheat that needed using so in it went and forgot to turn the temp down from 72 to 65 but doughed in about 10 mins and no stuck mash as the pump is running slow and steady and now at 66.
Removed the fine mesh filter altogether replaced with a mesh bag between the boiler and malt pipe to see how I fare with stray grains getting to the pump.
Shower, shave and a beer now though.

Let this no chill in the brew room and could not pitch the yeast until Sunday afternoon and still hadn't kicked off before i went to work Monday night so if nothing in the morning I have a packet of Notty but would much rather the ringwood would get it's ar$e in gear....

I wonder how the mesh bag would work as a hop filter bag/spider type thing? 🤔

Cheers Tom
Estimated OG was 1.061 and I got 1.040 but forgot to stir and I think that big mash bag held back more than a few grains but it is what it is.I have the ingredients to run again so will likely give it another go.

Did much hop debris escape?

Cheers Tom

Well we're off and it's going and at nearly £8 a pouch it's a PITA that unfortunately happens but will certainly harvest the yeast.
Shall keep an eye for high krausen as I need to dry hop this one but want to top crop for another brew.

Off like a Choo Choo train and like a chocolate late top.
Dry hopped with 26g citra, 30g Amarillo and 26g mosaic.Happy so far and will settle for a lower ABV.
Have top cropped for a starter as I intend to use this again.

Decided to brew this again last night though changed out the bittering hop for Magnum and changed the Pale Malt for Maris Otter as it's whole grain from last year needing used up but this time I was bang on with my expected OG at 1.060 and 23l to the fermenter.
Decided to swap out the yeast for CML The Firm which was pitched about 00.30am and was kicking off when I checked about 11.00am.
Brewzilla efficiency came in at 70% according to Brewers Friend and shall wait and see what my FG shall be once completed.
Cheers and thanks for looking, shall keep it updated...
