Thanks @Big_Eight . Did you use the small amount of malt extract in the recipe, or just up the base malt a bit?

I went ahead and used some golden light DME that I had for it. I think it would work just as well adding a bit extra base malt though.

Thanks, one more question if I may; what yeast did you use and did you get anywhere near the originals attenuation? I've been thinking of doing a Boddies for ages.

I just went with the Wyeast London III 1318. I did hit my OG at 1.041 and my FG came in at 1.008 so pretty decent.

Going to try the Bodds 1971 version from Ron's site next using the same yeast. After that I'll pick one to stick with and then play around with the yeast a bit.

Also remember you're talking to a Yank haha.

Enjoying this very tasty double stout from Hook Norton brewery.
MO,dark and brown malts, with Challenger,Fuggle and EKG.
Dark rich maltiness with hint of chocolate and coffee, nice hop bitterness.

Got an oatmeal stout of my own ready to barrel tomorrow
