I think I might be brewing a stout next and a Guinness clone might be an obvious starting point... Has anyone here tried the Guinness recipe from Wheeler's book and if so, how did it turn out?

Kegging mine in the next 30 mins or so. Had a quality control taste and it is nice but has too much of a roasted taste to it imo. Night go when it's matured a bit.

Ta Smok3y. Might not be my first pick then... Hmm hmm. The Sam Smith + Effin oatmeal stout recipes on this forum look pretty nice to me. I batch sparge, so I guess using rice hulls to prevent stuck parges wouldn't be absolutely necessary. Or would they? Is it advisable to do an overnight mash with toasted oats?
