Hi All, my Mrs wants to start making wine from kits, I have spare fv's and other stuff apart from a kit what else would she need and what is a good starter kit Red or Rose
I don't do wine at the moment but I do know that the Range kits go down very well on the forum.
@Chippy_Tea would be one to put you on the right track.

Thank you Chippy will have a good read, are the range wines okThe main difference between the kit you use for beer and wine is the degassing and clearing side of things (unless you want the latter to be done naturally which can take a long time) and maybe bottling, i use screw top glass bottles but PET pop bottles will do the job or you can buy glass bottles and use corks (i don't see the point but some members use them)
I use Milton tablets to sterilise they are no rinse so it saves a bit of time.
As for kits I make the Range store make your own Rose regularly as we have a local store and its very good, i have also made WinBuddy Sav Blanc and Solomon Grundy white which was OK, the WineBuddy and MYO kits finish fast which is a big plus.

If you're just looking to experiment use the 5ltr water bottles from the supermarket as they are only a quid each and you get to drink the water.Cracking thread that Chippy cheers, think she might try some of those wows, just need a few dj's
EXPERIMENT by golly !!!??? I use them all the time now. They are dirt cheap....they are light...clean up OK...dont break when dropped..store and stack well...and as my hands are not as strong as they once were a real bonus. I get the rubber bungs to suit and drill out the screw caps to fit them.15 mm usually does the trick. A round file comes in handy too..If you're just looking to experiment use the 5ltr water bottles from the supermarket as they are only a quid each and you get to drink the water.

Sorry to disagree....Well..It can work...but I am safety conscious-and NEVER want to waste the fruits of my effort. Therefore I would never recommend using a screw top container without an air lock:thumba: [ Just too easy to screw it up just too much..]You can use 5 litre plastic spring water bottles you can drill a 9 mm hole in the lid for an airlock or screw the top on and leave it loose so CO2 can escape.
