Something you yourself has said, he was never going to be impeached.
Wow, this is the first time I have agreed with you. I must of been wrong.

The point was, to set a precedent in case something like this happens again.

The world has seen, through the trial, how dangerous and violent the attack was and Trump was responsible for that.
If that ogre decides to run again this can be used against him.

With the logic you are running with here, Abraham Lincoln should of just let the Southern States secede, rather than raise an army, because of the cost.

Entirely different. Everyone knew that Trump wouldn't be impeached. Yet good money was thrown at a trial where the outcome was obvious.
I doubt any country/state has not fought a war after being attacked because of the cost.

You ignored my first two points.

  1. To set a precendent
  2. To use against Trump should he run again

Lincoln raised an army before the events at Fort Sumter.
The US Civil War, like the attack on the Capitol, was a Innsurrection because a group of people wouldn't accept the democratic process.

Thnakfully the insurrection at the US Capitol, while violent, was incompetent.

This short, concise article, gives a pretty good over view at what happened.

Strange, but not surprising, that Mitch McConnell voted not to impeach but later said Trump was 'practically and morally responsible' for the Insurrection and may face future legal proceedings.
Mitch McConnell is a G D fool. He had the perfect opportunity to politically cut trump off at the knees. If he had gotten enough votes (2/3) to convict Trump of the impeachment charges the next step would have been a majority only vote to ban him from holding office in the future.

True. I'd imagine McConnell is worried about alienating the Republican base.

Correct me if I'm wrong;

Trump is the first president to lose re-election, the senate and congress since Herbert Hoover?

He was also beaten, by US presidential election terms, a landside with both the popular and electoral votes.

And he has half of all the presidential impeachments by himself.

Some record,

Can see this thread going the wrong way folks...

We decided to temporarily lock the other and i have asked people not to move to other threads to carry on this one was the main one i was referring to.

He has never been found guilty. Just because some obsessed cranks initiate the process says more about the cranks than Trump.
In fairness, even Mitch McConnell said Trump was 'morally and practically responsible' for the attack on the capitol.
He only voted against impeachment because of a technicality.

Technicality as in false evidence.
Dems are probably getting sloppy because they are used to having 90% of the media and big tech covering their backs.

One the radio over the weekend they were saying now the impeachment is finished he could now face several criminal charges. The main one being attempted corruption over his phone call to the Georgia governor asking him to "find" some more republican votes.

Technicality as in false evidence.
No, the technicality was, according to Mitch McConnell, you can't impeach a President once he is out of office.
Remember, McConnell is a Republican and he said Trump is morally and practically responsible.

Out of curiousity, where do you get your facts from?

The trial has not been easy to watch, personally. Heart broken. Cried like a baby a few times at the injustice, cruelty, inhumanity, etc.
Not really cut out for the political stuff but I felt it was my duty to understand this event.
To understand this event, simply consider it another witch hunt/kangaroo trial with no evidence, brought out of vindictive spite and aiming to stop another run.
There was never a case and the Dems blew it , embarrassed themselves again, with manufactured quotes and third hand innuendo.
You need a ducking stool at this sort of ' orange man bad' event I guess.

The world has seen Trump acquitted of any responsibility,
The world has seen there was no case to answer.
The world witnessed, real time, a corrupt selection of an aging, failed and corrupt puppet.
I don't know why you'd even bother with a trial, YOU decide a person needs to be spanked YOU don't need evidence, cast some bones and pronounce sentence, why not?
It's what all the best autocrats do.

Some record,

I prefer the term "fookin' legend"

I can see why people could buy into him being innocent of inciting the actions of his supporters on the 6th of Jan. He never said 'go to the capital and **** **** up' but he said plenty that implied that's what he wanted those people to do. To the point that the most common defense those people are putting up when questioned in court is 'my president told me to go there and fight'.

McConnell agreed that he was guilty but then voted against on the technically that you can't convict as Trump is out of office, but that matter was already voted on so Mitch was clearly just playing to the Trump base. Painful to see but not surprising in the least.

I'm just looking forward to trump running in 2024, splitting the republican base and then many glorious years of Democracy 🤣
