I thought I would treat the Mrs and we talked about it and she prefers the cheaper brands so its pointless really, shame as I like MM and was going to go for this.

Why pointless? It’s still quite a bit cheaper and saves 19 plastic bottles and carting around 19kgs of water around the place. Could be nicer too.

So after about a week at 20psi it's properly carbed and I had a wee taste this evening, without gin, and have to say it is really nice tonic. Ill definitely keep buying this, it's half the price of the cheapest tonic and saves a load of plastic.

I guess a lot of the flavour may change depending on the water used. I filtered my water through a carbon filter I use for brewing, it may not be as good if just using straight tap water.

My wife bought a packet of quinine bark and made her own tonic water; you make it as a concentrate and just dilute it with fizzy water as needed (I have a carbonation cap so I just reuse pop bottles and fizz up tap water from my CO2 bottle). It was a lot better than the usual cheap brands, similar to fever tree, and it lasted ages as the sugar preserves it.

Will gin carbonate? Cut out the middle man, like.

For what it's worth, gin over ice is a lovely livener.

Where did you get the quinine from? Can you share the recipe you used?

Did you end up adding the sugar. I've got a pack to use but would rather use sugar than sweetener, am interested in your experience.

Thanks
I was lazy, and used the sachet included, not as horrible like some diet soft drinks. But next time I'll use sugar.
But as I'm lazy, i have no Gin at home yet, we'll see how does it taste like if I dilute it with gin. I guess I'll keep it on order.

She got it off the Internet it wasn't dear, I'll have a look tomorrow and post the recipe. She's just made another 2 litres this week ready for the nice weather!
